In honor of Valentine’s Day, I’m resharing this post about the love story of my great-grandparents, who defied their families and society as a whole to be together.
The love story of my great-grandparents didn’t unfold exactly as the family lore had outlined, but I found the story inspiring nonetheless. In my post “Devine Intervention”, I shared the original story and summarized how I debunked the lore.
In doing so, I uncovered the nuggets of truth and have been wanting to tell their love story in a more visual way. So, with little skill (and it shows), I made a short movie.
In my post “A Spirited Life Unveiled” I share how my great-grandmother’s sister was greatly impacted by how their parents shunned Alice for marrying outside of her Irish ethnicity and her Catholic faith. But despite being ostracized by her family and perhaps even the priest at her childhood house of worship, Alice was a devout Catholic and a devoted daughter, caring for her mother in her’s and Robert’s home until she passed away.
I like experimenting with telling stories in different ways. Have you ever told the stories of your ancestors in ways different than words on paper?
Beautifully done. Your voice adds depth and interest to the story.
