I remember riding my bike to the Ramsey County Library in White Bear Lake when I was in grade school. I also remember getting lemonade from Linden Pharmacy in WBL on 3rd Street. Now it's a health food store.
Your mention of the creaking door in the library made me wonder - where have all the creaking doors gone? There were plenty when I was a child, usually doors into grown-up places where the creak was really embarrassing. Have they improved the oil used on hinges, or have all the doors been replaced with automatic ones, that only work half the time, so you still stand at the door looking embarrassed?
ha! Good question! Your comment reminds me of the squeaking of a wood screen door. Such good memories - and a few years ago we got rid of the wood screen door at our cabin and it was a sad, sad day.
I loved the Arlington Hills Library. I remember playing “library” with you. You would check out the books.
Oh shoot! I wish I remembered that! I have some other early memories coming up soon that include you!
