While I agree with your conclusion (Vivian’s conclusion) about what’s really important, I think that, for someone like Vivian, the stability of home ownership and material comfort cannot be underestimated, especially for a vulnerable person (a woman with children) who had known real fear of poverty as she had. I am happy she found financial security and peace of mind as well.

To your point, I don’t think she would have found the peace she had later in life, had she not had the security that alluded her as a child and a young woman. It’s all tangled together and in the story it’s been simplified for sure.
