I have a blog on Google Blogger, an erratically produced blog, depending on the weather, my mood, or whatever else is going on in my life. But it has been very helpful for cousin-bait. Think I might publish my own Sixteen Names as well! Merci for the idea.
When there is a set of step-great-grandparents included in the group.
In looking back at my sixteen, I realised that there were two more ancestors waiting in the shadows, they were the parents of my great-grandmother< Mary Ann Hall>, who died quite young. My records for her family were sparse, giving me yet another research project to follow up on.
I had traced my step-great-grandmother's family line but had not yet traced the family for the blood line of Hall. So far I have identified Mary Ann's parents and grandparents, giving me more family names to include.
I love that you're not skipping the steps! Even though we may not be related by blood, they surely helped shape the lives of our ancestors! Thanks for commenting!
I have a super dumb question - I want to post mine but am not sure how to make that graphic like you have with the names on it. How did you create that? Explain it to me like I’m an 8 year old please.
No dumb questions. :) I made the graphic in "Numbers" (Apple's equivalent to Excel), but I would say that listing them in the body of your post is much more important than having a graphic because it's the typed-out list within your post that matters for search engines. Search engines (Google, etc.) won't read the names in your graphic, but they will read what you have within the body of your post.
But if you want to make one like mine, here is what I did on my Mac computer:
- I created a new file in "Numbers"
- In a cell, type the name of the ancestor and then hit the "Control" and "Return" button to stay in the same cell, but go down one line so you can enter the dates.
- Repeat
- Format the cells to have outlines the way you want. I also formatted to remove the grid lines that normally show up in file like this
It's hard to explain, but simple to do if you are familiar with Excel-type programs. I hope this helps a little.
Love this idea! Cousin bait at its finest. Thanks!
Ooohh, yes! Love that term! Heeerreeee cousin, cousin...

I hope you're able to lure in some cousins!
I hope you find a connection and hope that you'll share if you do!
You can count on it!
Oh I know!
When does Sixteen become Eighteen?

That’s helps a lot - thank you! I could see people repeating the formatting and couldn’t figure it out.
I hope you find some connections. Reminds me I should post my 16.
Thank you! I hope so too!
